Bazooka, my 6' dobsonian reflector...

Last month I bought new dobsonian telescope. It is Celestron Starhopper 6. It has 6 inch mirror with the focal length of 1219mm.

The focal length is more than I presumed. When I ordered it, I didn't realize that tube will be so lengthy. It is light, but when I carry it, I feel like I am carrying a missile launcher on my shoulders. I hope the cops or Tierra Del Sol border patrol guys will understand what I am carrying :)

I think I should name my dob as "Bazooka" !!

Any way, life is pretty interesting these days because of the Bazooka. The first time when I pointed it to Deep Sky objects like M13 Hercules cluster or M22 Sagittarius cluster, I was spell bound. The M22 looks exactly like this from my telescope. The M17 Swan nebula was beyond my expectations. From my Bazooka, it looks like this ...in black & white.. simply beautiful..

The simplest but the best object to watch is ..Moon... just unbelievable.. I am watching moon everyday.. Because of its phases, everytime it reveals different sets of craters and marias..

Hshhh.. I am already in love with the Bazooka !!

Whoaaaa~! I love that Dobsonian telescope that you bought! I saw that at the dobsonian site and I really, reaaaally wanna have it for my own too. And *laughs* the name Bazooka really fits it. Hahah~ And the price kinda fits to my budget too (though the 12" would be nice..). Thanks for the post! Oh yes.. any tips or reviews that you might offer me? :D

Hey Cubbie,

Thanks for visiting my blog..

The "bazooka" is really good.. excellent optics... the reflector tube is lil bit longer than i expected, but it is extremely light.. it comes with one eyepiece 25mm, so you might want to buy additional eyepieces.. another 32mm and 2x or 3x barlow will be just perfect..

The dobsonian mount is somewhat heavy .. so lil bit cumbersome to carry around.... but considering the price, starhopper is worth every buck for beginners..

Additionally, it doesn't have any tracking system.. if you need it, then check Orion dobsonian models..

I am not sure, how much enthu are you in astro.. means.. have u handled any telescope before.... if you haven't then i will suggest to stay with 6" or 8" aperture only... 12" will be too huge to carry and maintain, if you are beginner.

The best telescope is the one which you use the most... otherwise its just another piece of expensive furniture...

btw, where r u from? what do you do?
